Title: Vi'i o Fetu o Siva (Si O'u Sei)
New Lyrics: Zion Fuimaono Malaki
Instrumental: Pinati Williams
Based on the Musical Composition: "Si O'u Sei," Traditional by Fuimaono Fereti
The Vi’i o Fetu o Siva serves as the official anthem of the Fetu o Siva Polynesian Dance Academy. Created to establish a strong cultural identity for the academy, the anthem reflects both the pride of the students and the deep roots of its founder, Zion Fuimaono Malaki, who is also known by his cultural title, Faia’oga Fuimaono.
In seeking to ground the academy in something meaningful, Faia’oga Fuimaono drew inspiration from “Si O’u Sei”, a beloved traditional song originally written as the Vi’i o Pineula—the anthem for the Pineula Rugby Team from Salani, a village in the District of Falealili, Samoa. Though not his personal hometown, Salani is the ancestral village of his family—a place rich in history, pride, and cultural influence.
Recognizing the emotional and cultural power of “Si O’u Sei,” Faia’oga Fuimaono reimagined the song as a new anthem that would represent the journey, values, and identity of Fetu o Siva, while paying tribute to the legacy of Salani and the pride it instills in those who descend from it.
The Vi’i o Fetu o Siva (Si O’u Sei) features new lyrics written by Zion Fuimaono Malaki, with instrumental arrangement by Pinati Williams. The composition remains based on the traditional melody originally created by Fuimaono Fereti, blending the roots of the past with the vision of the future.
Today, this anthem stands as a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and remembrance. It honors the village that inspires us, the people who came before us, and the purpose that guides us forward through the art of Polynesian dance.
